Characteristics

  • Produced from 1965 to 1969 and was made as an experimental model.

  • Was the first Rolex Cosmograph that can truly be considered waterproof.

  • With this model, Rolex introduced the 'screw-down pusher'.

  • The name OYSTER is reappearing on the dial (present in ref. 6238).

  • The reference 6240 was exclusively made in stainless steel.

  • Since it was an experimental prototype, there is a limited availability of pertinent documentation.

  • Polished case back and has a rounded profile same as with ref. 6238 and satin finish inside the case back.

BRacelet

Ref. 6240 is equipped with riveted bracelets reference 6635 or 7205 with 19mm curved fitting Nº 71. In recently models, Rolex adopts also the bended model ref. 7835 with 19 mm curved fitting Nº 271.


Bezel

It is the introduction of the calibrated metal bezel with a black plastic insert and the tachymeter printed in white. Even that, the very first models of the 6240 were bearing a stainless steel bezel like ref. 6239.

Scale :

               From 50 to 100, intervals of 1 unit.

               From 100 to 140, intervals of 5 units.

               From 140 to 160, intervals of 10 units.

               From 160 to 200, intervals of 20 units


movement

Ref. 6240 bears a movement VALJOUX and wore the calibers 72B, 722 and 722-1.

Above there is a clear example of a caliber 72B and text on 2 lines engraved on the chronograph bridge; a caliber 722 and text on 5 lines engraved on the chronograph bridge; and a caliber 722-1 and text on 5 lines engraved on the chronograph bridge.
