CHARACTERISTICS

  • Produced only in 1970.

  • Produced in stainless steel, 14kt and 18kt gold.

  • Around 9,000 stainless steel pieces were made and only a few dozen were made in gold.

    • The 18kt gold 6264 with ref. 6262 are one of the scarcest Daytona references ever made, and also one of the most difficult Rolexes to find on the vintage watch market today. Only around 30 pieces were produced of reference 6262/6264 in 18kt gold.

  • Realised in both standard two-tone and Paul Newman dials.

  • The reference 6264 was bearing an OYSTER case.

  • Pump push-down buttons in chromed metal, model 24-P3.

  • OYSTER TWINLOCK 600 series winding crown in ridged metal with raised underlined Rolex logo.

  • Domed plexiglas crystal, model TROPIC 21.

  • Metal hands covered in white on black background and burnished metal on white background.

  • The ref. 6264 is the natural evolution of ref. 6239 with a new movement mounted in, the caliber 727. It is more precise as it goes from 18,000 to 21,600 vibrations per hour.

  • Has a metal, polished case back with an oval-shaped profile.

  • Satin finish inside the case back with the Rolex name stamp, the Rolex patent, the material of construction and reference number. Occasionally the reference number stamp may vary from the actual reference model engraved between the upper lugs of the case.

  • Upper lug (12 o'clock) ---> REGISTERED DESIGN

                                                                   6264

  • Lower lug (6 o'clock)---> STAINLESS STEEL (when the case is in steel)

                                                      Serial number

BRACELET

Reference 6264 models are equipped with bracelets with bended links ref. 7835 and 19mm curved fittings Nº 271.

BEZEL

Calibrated metal bezel. Speed measured up to 200 units per hour.

Speed scale :

From 50 to 100, intervals of 1 unit.

From 100 to 140, intervals of 5 units.

From 140 to 200, intervals of 10 units.

MOVEMENT

  • Ref. 6264 bears a movement VALJOUX caliber 727:

    • An evolution of caliber 722-1 and also based on caliber 72A, fitted the Daytona chronographs from 1969 to about 1987.

Above there is a clear example of a caliber 727 and text on 5 lines engraved on the chronograph bridge.

DIAL

  • Printing on dial:

    • ROLEX COSMOGRAPH

    • DAYTONA (Not always present). When present, can be centered under COSMOGRAPH signature or along the hour totalizer curve. The "serifs" are the same as the COSMOGRAPH signature. Dials with the DAYTONA signature in red positioned above the hour totalizer are post-production made from the 1970's on.

  • Unspecified waterproof depth, that is the reason why the OYSTER signature is not present on the dial.

  • Chromatic contrast between dial and registers, which are raised concentric circular ridges, slightly sunken in respect to the level of the dial. The numbers and indexes are printed with serif font and color contrast.
